Run your brains out

January 4, 2017

We all realise physical activity is good for the muscles, but now we know, it is also good for the brain. For now proven only with mice, but daily exercise may, according to the scientists, alter also human brains.

At the New York University’s Medical Center they put half of the fury animals into cages with running wheels, while the others were left to enjoy sedentary lifestyle. The ones with wheels chose not to idly lye around, but used the equipment to do several miles per day. Afterwards the researchers examined their brain and found out regular exercise boosted the creation of new cells in the hippocampus, the part of the brain ruling memory and learning. The running especially work wonders on the protein called Miracle-Gro, lack of it is linked to cognitive decline. Scientists now believe exercise could shield us from future memory and thinking skill loss.

Unfortunately, one should work out vigorously for at least an hour a day for the best brain activity, but will receive double the prize. Namely, it is exactly the time when the body exhaust its stores of sugar and starts burning the stored fat. You know the one we warm-heartedly embraced during the holidays.
