In the climate of terrorist threats and civil unrest, security experts may have proposed a simple solution, employ more female police officers. After more than a century since the first policewoman took her post, there is still only about 10 percent of female police officers worldwide. Yet, the countries with better female police representation tend to be more stable and pride with the substantially less crime and corruption.

Regardless of gender, police officers are on a daily basis exposed to violence and sometimes traumatic incidents. Research, however, shows that compassion and empathy are essential in solving situations and women simply seem to be more suitable for the job in such circumstances. We are not only better at building trust with victims and local communities, but, also more efficiently deal with violence, using negotiation skills and emotional intelligence.

Not convinced, yet? Maintaining order among chimpanzees is entrusted to females, who even have the authority to punish the culprits. No offense intended.
