El Niño is challenging fashion

El Niño is shaking fashion and changing the rules of the industry. One of the warmest winters in the northern hemisphere is not only making people forget about the boots and coats, but is also causing the retailers to lose money.

Unseasonably mild temperatures are forcing the sellers to restructure their business, according to the see-now, buy-now, wear-now trend. Hardly anyone is planning a winter shopping spree these days and the whole idea of stacking seasonal clothes in periods is becoming obsolete. Consumers are grabbing for traditionally summer items while seasonal goods are left on the shelves. The new winter wonder in the UK are sunglasses and lightweight jackets, while thicker coats and gloves remain untouched.

New purchasing patterns are re-emerging this year again and it would be foolish to expect from the retailers to anticipate something even scientific weather people with all their cutting edge modelling cannot do. In future, it looks like it will become normal to stack bikinis alongside earmuffs. Suddenly, shorts with boots are not that silly anymore.
