3D shoes from the ocean

December 17, 2015

They did everything right, from taking care of the environment to using cutting edge technology no one has found its proper purpose yet.

Adidas joined with the organisation that is dealing with the plastic waste in oceans to create, what they call a unique shoe concept. The trainers have a 3D-printed midsole from recycled polyester and fishing nets, while the upper parts are sewn from the plastic found in the oceans.

At Adidas they believe the prototype will become a product one day. The underlying idea is for customers to walk into a store, have their running style analyzed, before a custom-fitted pair is 3D-printed for them. In case these ocean reclaimed trainers end up in the sea again, could that be considered a full circle recycling?
