The liberating dress

wrap dress

No matter what you think about Diane von Furstenberg or her reality show, the wrap dress remains the fashion icon every woman should have in her closet.

Born out of necessity, the clever idea of sewing together the seams of garmet to create an apron like dress and wrap it up around the waist with straps, has been a brainchild of working women. It emerged in the 1930s as a highly utilitarian piece. However, as it hugs womens’ curves and shows décolletage, it is elegant and practical at the same time.

The wrap dress regained popularity, when Furstenberg came up with the knee long interpretation made out of jersey. Instantly, the dress and its creator, became famous. Furstenberg later said her divorce inspired the design, while she was trying to enable women to enjoy sexual freedom. As you might expect, we still love it.
