Odd or even fruits

July 9, 2015

Tons of perfectly edible produce are wasted each year only because they do not look good. Deformed fruits and vegetables often end up in landfills, simply because they cannot meet our uniformed standards.

But knowing that there is much more on fruits and veggies than just good looks, a French grocery chain has decided to give them another chance. Intermarché created a campaign using deformed produce and giving them funky names like The failed lemon or The ridiculous potato. They are trying to convince the customers disfigured fruits are just as worthy of being eaten as their fancy, good looking relatives.

If strange forms are not to your liking, Japanese may have something orderly for your eyes to feast on. By planting watermelons inside acrylic containers, they can get all kinds of tidy fruits, from a pyramid to a heart. No matter what shape or size you go for, keep in mind – You have to be odd to be number one.
