Friends with benefits

June 29, 2015

Forget about green drinks that make us squint and try the healthy mixture of these two friends, sparkling and elderberry.

Scientists proved bubbly wine reduces the risk of strokes and heart disease. The dull version goes, chemicals called polyphenols dilate vessels and improve circulation. And you even do not need to go for the pricy ones, any sparkling from Cava to Prosecco will do. Then comes the ingredient people in the Northern Hemisphere have known forever. Packed with antioxidants and vitamins A, B and a lot of C, elderberry has goodies up its sleeve that do just about anything, from boosting the immune system, to lowering cholesterol and working against bacteria and viruses, a true healthy friend.

Mixing sparkling wine, or water for children, with elderberry syrup over heaps of ice will bring a light, summery drink perfect for any cocktail time. These are true friends with benefits, health benefits.
