Fashion reporting by Google

April 28, 2015

Fashion trends used to be carefully selected by a handful of fashion designers. Lately, they get inspiration from creative people on the streets and are swiftly launched by fast fashion companies.  Can this evolve even further with the help of technology?

Google has compiled the numbers on fashion searches and linked them with location, to offer a unique insight into how the trends are emerging these days. In its first fashion report, the computer behemoth has analysed billions of searches and provided a detailed analysis of fashion dos and don’ts around the globe.  According to the leading search engine, the clear winners are currently all varieties of jogger pants, confirming the popularity of sportswear, followed by tulle skirts. From last year their searches went up by 165 percent. And what is out online? High-waisted shorts and string bikinis are fashion items hardly anyone looked for.

If Google got it right, emoji pants will soon be ruling the street, the searches for them went up by a staggering 58,000 per cent. The question remains, will people stop at browsing or go ahead and decide to buy them.
