Depression or physical activity?

Has physical activity proved to be the cure for depression?  Chinese researchers think so.

After analyzing findings from several studies about depression, they found out that people who are not active risk to become ill. To avoid cultural bias researchers included studies from Australia, Asia, Americas and Europe, finding out that across continents people with no or little physical activity were 25 percent more likely to be depressed. Interestingly, what one is doing while being idle is very important. Watching TV seems to be less harmful than sitting in front of the computer. The biggest group TV watchers are much better off with lower chance to be depressed.

Researchers admit the analysis cannot prove the cause for sadness. There is a possibility that it is depression that leads to sedentary behaviour rather than the other way around. However, whatever comes first, depression or idleness, it is always a good idea to get moving and be more active.
