Women make up half of the workforce, but hold just a fraction of influential positions in the US, recent Pew research revealed. No wonder present generation remains as pessimistic as their mothers and grandmothers regarding gender equality. Influence goes hand in hand with media, which has started to work on changing the perception of women, however Hollywood seems to be the guard of the traditional female image.

Over the last decade nothing much has changed in the capital of film industry. A vast majority of main characters remain men and those rare female protagonists normally have no leadership qualities or identifiable goals. Moreover, according to It’s a Man’s (Celluloid) World survey female starred in only 15 per cent of the top 100 Hollywood movies. It goes without saying most women were much younger than their male co-stars. But the discussion on gender inequality in the movie industry has only started.
