Ambiguously about women

October 6, 2013

Moroccan born artist Lalla Essaydi, living in the USA, offers a glimpse into the most private part of a female Arab world, their homes. Through her work she is trying to change our perception of Muslim women as passive, sexual slaves or jezebels. Her paintings show domestic scenes in which women are surrounded by exquisite beauty of oriental decoration surfaces of spaces.

I don’t like labels she answers the question about being a feminist, continuing if working with women for women, about women makes me a feminist, then so be it, I am a feminist. This piece, Bullet 1, perceived as homage to Gustav Klimt is ambiguously composed of bullets.
