Qualified women wanted

August 30, 2013

good womanDespite several attempts from the European Parliament and the Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB) has so far managed to remain all boys club. At the Bank they argue that, experience shows female candidates are more reserved and modest in job interviews and presentations and therefore fail to fill the posts. But even the ECB apparently realised it is becoming impossible to shed from women.

In a surprising move the Bank has recently announced by 2020 a third of its middle and senior management positions will be filled by qualified women. While the Europeans are obviously mulling over different ways to keep the glass ceiling untouched, on the other side of the Atlantic it is a different story. America’s central bank, the Federal Reserve has never been closer to its first Chairwoman. Janet Yellen, currently Vice Chairwoman is a strong candidate for the next Head of the Fed.
