The Photoshop law

From March last year male and female models in Israel are obliged to have a body mass index (BMI) of more than 18.5 or cannot participate in the fashion shows and ads. This year Israelis went even further.

Starting January 1, so called “the Photoshop law” went into effect. The law puts additional regulation on advertisers to clearly label all ads with digitally altered images of models. For now, it only applies to domestic advertising companies, but the idea is spreading. There have been recent calls in the UK and France to post a warning on such images, but heated political debate in Austria indicates, they could become the first Europeans to enact such law.
