Female athletes in London

July 29, 2012

The 2012 Olympic Games were opened with an amazing ceremony watched by over one billion people worldwide. In his speech Jacques Rogge, the president of the International Olympic Committee said, for the first time in Olympic history every, out of 205 participating nations, feature female athletes.

Not all went smoothly though. At first Saudi Royal Family did not approve sending females to London. The demands by the International Olympic Committee were apparently strong enough for Saudi team to walk into the stadium with female athletes for the first time. So did Qatar and Brunei, both even with a female as the flag bearer.
