Slimming by reading

Out of all the different slimming programmes, would you consider dieting by reading a book? In the recent study involving several European countries the participants were asked how much time they spend on different leisure activities. They could choose from reading, going to cultural events, socializing, attending sporting events, watching TV or shopping.

The results suggest people, who spend their free time reading, attending cultural events and were using the Internet, had lover body-mass index. In contrast, those who are often watching TV, going to sporting events and like to do shopping had higher average body-mass.

Since time spent reading a book or watching TV does not differ much in terms of calorie consumption, the results suggest that both cultural activities and body weight reflect distinction that separate lifestyles of different socio economic groups.
