Kissing on Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2012

On Valentine’s Day the whole world seems to be kissing.  Some cultures however traditionally do not touch lips with lips. Kissing was brought to Japan, for instance, only in the last century. Introduced by western arts, it was considered as highly offensive.  When the Rodin sculpture The Kiss was exhibited in Tokyo in the 1920s, it was hidden behind a bamboo curtain. In India as well as in some other Asian countries the public display of affection is still a criminal offence. So, if you happen to spent you Valentine’s Day kissing, enjoy, but make sure you do not get penalised.
