How women network

Women seem to dominate most social networking sites, with one exception, LinkedIn tailored for professional use. The Pew Research Center study shows, that 56% of social network site users are female, with only 37% on LinkedIn. Why is it so?

According to one assumption, women prefer personal approach in business over networking sites. Consequently, women do networking in person, over a drink or through professional associations leaving social media for personal purposes.

LinkedIn management is not proud of it, Nicole Williams, their Connection Director explains: “Women tend to network in person more predominantly than online. Additionally, while men are more comfortable asking for introductions or reaching out to second- and third-level networks, women prefer to create deeper connections with or through people they know.”

Next time you hesitate to use professional networking site be aware, you are not alone.
