Can we afford another 100 years?

September 25, 2011

Chartered Management Institute conducted a research on pay parity. 34,158 UK executives participated in the poll, which showed the salaries of female executives are increasing faster than those of their male counterparts. Nevertheless the results are still surprising.

It will take another 98 years, to gain parity in salaries. Women may have equal voting rights since 1928, but if pay grows at current rates, they will have to wait until 2109 to level with men’s earnings.

The data also shows women are more prepared to walk from jobs if they are not getting what they want. Pay parity issues takes loss of skills from discrimination into economic realm. The main question is: Can we afford another 100 years?

On the brighter side, the survey highlighted also a positive trend for women. Some female executives at junior level are earning as much as their male counterparts.
